The first official trailer for X-Men: Apocalypse dropped Friday morning, showing the team of superheroes taking on the frightening new villain.
The trailer opens with Charles Xavier (James McAvoy) talking to Sophie Turner‘s Jean Grey, who tells him, “I saw the end of the world. I could feel all this death.” Though Charles reassures her that it was just a dream, it’s not long before En Sabah Nur/Apocalypse (Oscar Isaac) makes himself known and tells them that as the world’s first mutant, he is the father of all of them.
En Sabah Nur’s goal is to choose four mutants to be the Four Horsemen of the apocalypse. He can control all of them – including Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence) and Beast (Nicholas Hoult) – making their battle against him all the more difficult.
“Since the dawn of civilization, he was worshipped as a god. Apocalypse, the first and most powerful mutant from Marvel’s X-Men universe, amassed the powers of many other mutants, becoming immortal and invincible,” reads the trailer description. “Upon awakening after thousands of years, he is disillusioned with the world as he finds it and recruits a team of powerful mutants, including a disheartened Magneto (Michael Fassbender), to cleanse mankind and create a new world order, over which he will reign.”
“As the fate of the Earth hangs in the balance, Raven with the help of Professor X must lead a team of young X-Men to stop their greatest nemesis and save mankind from complete destruction.”
X-Men: Apocalypse, directed by Bryan Singer, will hit theaters May 27.
