‘X-Files’ Season 11 In The Works, Fox In Talks With Gillian Anderson & David Duchovny

Dana Walden, Fox Television Group CEO, and David Madden, Fox Broadcasting President, have confirmed that talks with X-Files stars Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny are taking place — during an interview at the Television Critics Association summer press tour on Monday.

“We would obviously love to do another season. There are significant talks going on,” Madden said. “Schedules are hard. We’re working hard to get this done and we’d love to get another season out now.”

X-Files returned to the network after an initial nine season run — the final episode airing in 2002. The popular sci-fi series came back to television in January for a tenth season and ended on a cliffhanger after only six episodes.

“We would’ve liked to have done more in the first place. It was really the limitations of David and Gillian and Chris'[Carter] schedules,” Walden admitted. “It was just trying to coordinate a time where they all could carve out a time when they could all be in Vancouver.”

“I think now we have longer to plan, we’re in conversations that potentially we can do more,” Walden added. “I don’t imagine it being a full season of The X-Files, but I would be really happy if we could get eight to ten episodes.”

The revival season received mixed reviews, as many fans felt the season was rushed and didn’t have a good balance between the show’s overall arching mythology and traditional “Monster of The Week.”

“It was still a lot of time to cover in these six episodes, so they had the challenge of filling in the mythology and explaining where the characters were and how they got to where they are at the start of the six episodes,” Walden explained. “I think going forward, there won’t be the same obligation to reset the series.”
