Wyclef Jean, 39, announced Sunday that he will appeal the decision by the Haitian Election Commission to disqualify him from running for the presidency of his native country. Jean was raised in Haiti until the age of nine when he moved to Brooklyn. Officials cited the fact that Jean lives primarily in New Jersey as the primary grounds for his disqualification. The hip hop star’s short-lived campaign received much criticism. One very public nay-sayer was Sean Penn, who repeatedly questioned Jean’s motives for running.
