Advertisements for the new ‘sky pool’ near Embassy Gardens in south-west London have visitors in awe of the one of a kind aquatic element.

The pool sits 10 stories up, spanning 25 meters between two apartment buildings and is the world’s first floating swimming pool.

The idea for the sky pool came up when the Embassy Gardens creative team decided that the only space big enough for a pool was the space between the two buildings.

The company worked with Hal Currey and Arup Associates as well as structural engineers Eckersley O’Callaghan.

The pool’s sides are 200mm thick and 3.2 meters deep, and with a bottom 300mm thick, the 50-tonne acrylic pool spans the 14-metres between the buildings.

“Once you swim off, you can look right down. It will be like flying,” said Brian Eckersley, Director of Eckersley O’Callaghan, according to the Embassy Gardens website.

The pool will open to residents from May 19, 2021.
