World Autism Day Garners Support On Twitter
It’s World Autism Awareness Day and people are tweeting their support.
Toronto Mayor John Tory tweeted a picture of the Toronto sign in blue. The Light Up Blue campaign asks people to wear blue or to light something in blue as a symbol of support and acceptance for autism.

Recently, TV shows like ABC’s The Good Doctor, starring Freddie Highmore as a gifted autistic doctor, have started to show autism in a more favorable light.
Sen. Chuck Shumer (D-N.Y.) tweeted about Kevin and Avonte’s Law passing. The law helps keep children with autism and other disabilities safe from wandering off. Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) said, “This bipartisan bill applies proven community alert systems to help locate people with Alzheimer’s, dementia, autism and related disorders who may be susceptible to wandering away from safety. It also supports training for first responders and the community officials to better prevent and respond to these cases.”

Vice President Mike Pence tweeted his support of President Donald Trump‘s proclamation to make April 2 World Autism Awareness Day. He quoted him saying, “Let us renew our commitment to support the entire international ASD community.”
