Wonder Woman fans got their first glimpse of the new DC Films flick Tuesday night during the DC Films Presents: Dawn of the Justice League special on The CW.

‘Wonder Woman’ First Look

In the first clips of Wonder Woman, Gal Gadot appears as Amazon in training Princess Diana of Themyscira, in action as the Wonder Woman superhero, and undercover as an ordinary civilian walking the streets in the 1920s. Though no dialogue appears in the teaser, interviews with those involved in the film gave an idea of what it will be about.

“Wonder Woman’s like one of the greatest superheroes out there, but people don’t know her origins like they know Superman’s origin and Batman’s origin,” said Chief Creative Officer of DC Comics, Geoff Johns. “So, what we want to do in the film is really tell people who she is, where she comes from and why she does what she does. We’ve never seen it on film before.”

“These Amazons were once created to protect man’s world, but they’ve since abandoned it,” Johns continued. “Diana is asking constantly, ‘Why don’t we go do and created to do and protect man?’ They say, ‘Because they’re not worth it.’ And this takes her on a journey into our world. Fans of the comics won’t be disappointed with her interpretation of the role.”

Stars Gadot and Chris Pine, who plays Gadot’s love interest in the superhero epic, believe that the Wonder Woman movie will be an important bit of filmmaking.

“We’re going to see her coming of age, the entire history, what’s her mission,” Gadot said.

Pine added, “Telling a story like this now is pivotal and important. The story of a very powerful woman.”

DC Films also released a new trailer for it’s other upcoming film, Suicide Squad, on Tuesday. Set to Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody,” the trailer gave a better look at the “worst heroes ever” and what/who Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) hires them on to combat together.
