Woman Who Accused Horatio Sanz Of Sexual Assault Calls Out ‘SNL’ Cast For Not Supporting Her

In 2021, Horatio Sanz, who was on Saturday Night Live from 1998 to 2006, was accused of sexually assaulting a minor for an incident that occurred in 2002.

Now Sanz’s accuser is calling out the SNL cast for not supporting her case against Sanz. The accuser has stayed anonymous and is referred to as Jane Doe

In August 2021, she filed charges against Sanz for an incident that occurred when she was a minor at an after-party show. She claims that she was sexually assaulted and groomed by Sanz. She claims she was groped by Sanz during the party in a room full of people, including SNL cast members.

No one tried to help her even though she was clearly telling Sanz to stop, Doe says. No one ever filed a complaint against Sanz, even though they witnessed his illegal actions. When Sanz and Doe left the party, Doe was extremely intoxicated, and Sanz allegedly attempted to rape her in the car ride home. The rape accusation was not a part of the lawsuit.

In the book Burn It Down: Power, Complicity, and a Call for Change in Hollywood by Maureen Ryan, Doe is quoted as saying, “My control top pantyhose did more to keep me safe than any of those people that I idolized.”

In her lawsuit against Sanz and NBC Universal, Doe named Lorne Michaels, Tracy Morgan and Jimmy Fallon, all people who worked for SNL at the time. She claimed that these three people enabled Sanz to abuse her.

Doe is quoted as saying, “I just know that as an adult now in her thirties, if I saw a colleague fingering or getting a minor drunk, getting a fan drunk, and I saw that clearly unbalanced power dynamic. Sanz was clearly pursuing me, physically pursuing me across years of these parties. If I saw my colleague doing that with a teenage fan, I would absolutely intervene or I would go up the chain of command and I would want something to be done. I would want it to be handled. And I don’t think that that happened.”

She compared her case to what happened on Sex and the City when Chris North was accused of sexual assault. The show’s producers released a statement saying: “It’s hard for the survivor to come forward and we support the survivor.”

The case was dismissed in November after an agreement by both sides.

Doe did continue a relationship with Sanz after the incident occurred. Their relationship ended, she claims, after Doe realized that it was unhealthy and abusive.
