Woman Gored By Bison At Yellowstone National Park, Sustains ‘Significant’ Injuries

A bison gored an Arizonian woman at Yellowstone National Park. The Phoenix local, 47, sustained significant injuries.

According to the National Park Service, the woman was walking with another person in a field on the north shore of Lake Yellowstone when they saw two bison. As the visitors turned away, one of the bison charged the woman.

She suffered serious injuries to her chest and abdomen. The woman was airlifted to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center and the state of her condition remains unknown.

The incident is currently under investigation. Park officials said it is unclear how close the visitors were to the bison when the animal began running, but the National Park Service warned all visitors to stay at least 25 yards away from any wildlife they encounter.

Although this is the first incident of the year, bison have injured more visitors in Yellowstone than any other animal. Bison are unpredictable animals that are known to be able to run three times faster than humans.

Anyone who disregards the park’s warnings may face fines and run the risk of being severely injured.
