Wiz Khalifa faced legal trouble in Romania over the weekend, leading to his arrest for cannabis possession at a music festival.
The incident occurred Saturday night at the “Beach, Please!” festival in Costinesti, where Khalifa was the headlining act. Romanian authorities reportedly found marijuana on the rapper, whose real name is Cameron Thomaz. Recreational cannabis use is illegal in Romania.
Social media footage showed law enforcement escorting Khalifa from the venue. In one video, the rapper asks officers not to surround him, stating, “I’m not going nowhere.”
Romania’s anti-organized crime prosecutors, DIICOT, released a statement saying Khalifa was found with over 18 grams of cannabis and had consumed more on stage in the form of a hand-rolled cigarette. The agency emphasized that the accused maintains all procedural rights and the presumption of innocence throughout the investigation.
Khalifa addressed the incident on Sunday on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter. “Last night’s show was amazing. I didn’t mean any disrespect to the country of Romania by lighting up on stage,” he wrote. The rapper added that authorities were respectful and released him, promising to return to Romania in the future, albeit “without a big ass joint next time.”
The 35-year-old artist, known for hits like “Black and Yellow,” has long incorporated cannabis use into his public persona. He recently joked about attending his son’s parent-teacher conferences while high during an appearance on the Call Her Daddy podcast.
“Hell yeah, I’m pulling up stoned. They expect it,” Khalifa told host Alex Cooper. “They know what’s up. It’s not like back in the day [where] you’re considered a bad parent if you smoke weed.”
Despite the legal setback, Khalifa is set to perform at Drai’s Beachclub & Nightclub in Las Vegas on August 30 and 31.
Last summer, Khalifa admitted he was high on magic mushrooms while throwing out the first pitch at an MLB game.
