Will Smith Celebrates 50th Birthday By Bungee Jumping Near The Grand Canyon [VIDEO]

On September 25, Will Smith celebrated his 50th birthday by bungee jumping from a helicopter near the Grand Canyon.

Back in March, the movie star accepted the challenge of bungee jumping from a helicopter near the Grand Canyon from YouTube channel Yes Theory, which aims to push people out of their comfort zone.

Smith used the jump as a way to raise money for Education Cannot Wait, which is a global fund that aims to provide education to children in crisis-affected areas. He also used the jump to raise awareness of the educational programs from international advocacy organization Global Citizen.

In September, Smith uploaded a video on his YouTube channel in which he talked about overcoming fear and how as a kid he was afraid of walking to the edge of the Grand Canyon on his family’s cross-country trip. 

“I don’t mind being scared, I’m still going to do it,” Smith said in his YouTube video.

Smith jumped over the Little Colorado River Gorge, which is east of the Grand Canyon National Park, in the Navajo Nation. 

A Grand Canyon spokeswoman said that although Smith didn’t ask, he still would not have been allowed to bungee jump over the landmark.

A live stream video of the superstar bungee jumping from a helicopter was scheduled on his YouTube channel on Tuesday at 3 p.m. 

At the scene, Smith was joined by his wife and actress Jada Pinkett-Smith, daughter Willow Smith, sons Trey and Jaden Smith, and former Fresh Prince of Bel Air co-star Alfonso Ribeiro, where they witnessed Smith’s 1,000-foot leap.

While speaking with Ribeiro after the jump, Smith said, “I am not going to be able to articulate it thoroughly right now but here’s a real relationship between freedom and joy. There’s an idea bubbling in my mind, as fear as a cage, fear actually traps you… My father passed just little over a year ago and there’s something about the confrontation with death that makes you live life more freely. The freedom to just be and do who and what you are, is absolutely exhilarating… Life is hard. You might get hurt. Your heart might get broken. You might lose your job. But you’ve still got to commit.”

Later, Smith also revealed that his biggest fear is mice.
