Sam Raimi announced at Comic Con that he’d be producing an adaptation of popular video game The Last of Us – and that Game of Thrones actress Maisie Williams could potentially star in it.

'The Last Of Us' Movie

Raimi – who directed the the Evil Dead films and the three-film Spiderman franchise starring Toby Maguire – and Naughty Dog game author Neil Druckmann will be teaming up for The Last of Us feature film. Druckmann, who also served as the director of the video game, will serve as the film’s screenwriter, according to io9.

In order to agree to the film, Naughty Dog wanted to have final say on the director and the casting as well. "It's kind of on us not to make it suck," Druckmann said at Comic-Con. Raimi had said at one point that he worried that he’d have to protect the film from studio execs, but later quipped to Druckmann, “It looks like I'm going to have to protect it from you."

In truth, Raimi is thrilled that Druckmann has taken on the duty of penning the script for The Last of Us. “I have a great deal of confidence we’re going to end up with a script that’s true to the strengths of the game,” he said, according to IGN. “It’s gonna be a great character journey, a great love story, and great horror fiction.”

Maisie Williams In Talks To Play Elle

The Last of Us, based in a post-apocalyptic America overtaken by humans-turned-monsters by a fungal infection, follows smuggler Joe as he tries to bring a 14-year-old girl named Ellie from Boston to the West Coast in a treacherous cross-country trek. According to both Raimi and Druckmann, they’re already in talks with Williams, who plays the tough and brash Arya Stark on Thrones, to play Elle.

It’s unknown who will take on the part of Joe, though Hugh Jackman and Josh Brolin are already fan favorites, according to Deadline. A director has yet to be announced either.
