Kid Cudi surprised fans of Saturday Night Live when he stepped out wearing a dress during his musical performance over the weekend.

When performing his song “Sad People,” Cudi wore a dress that resembled an outfit the late Kurt Cobain wore in the early 90s. On Sunday, Cudi explained his reasoning for the dress. He also credited designer, Off-White founder Virgil Abloh.

“Virgil designed the dress for me,” Cudi tweeted. “I told him I wanted to show love to Kurt w a formal print sundress and this man made a masterpiece. Thank You @virgilabloh ur a f—in genius!! Love you man we did it!!!”

Cudi added, “I’m doin a collection w Off-White and the dress will be included!!”

Abloh shared photos of Cudi in the dress on his Instagram, he wrote, “Freedom is, as freedom does. Feel free. Feel me. @Off____White™ specially reserved for Mr. Rager only, @kidcudi— @nbcsnl ©2021.”

Cudi and Abloh previously collaborated last May to create merchandise for Cudi’s single, “Leader of the Delinquents.”

Cudi also played tribute to Cobain in his other SNL performance of his track “Tequila Shots” as Cudi wore a green, fuzzy cardigan. Fans were quick to point out that it looked similar to the sweater Cobain wore during Nirvana’s 1994 MTV Unplugged in New York performance.
