On last night's The Office, Brian "the boom guy" entered the frame for the second time in so many weeks to swoop in to Pam's aid.
In "Vandalism," Pam (Jenna Fischer) gets upset when her mural is defaced with spray-painted butts. Dwight (Rainn Wilson) and Nellie (Catherine Tate) discover that it was one of the warehouse workers, Frank. Shockingly, Toby (Paul Lieberstein) doesn't appropriately punish the guy, so Dwight and Pam take retribution into their own hands. They head to the parking lot and paint a rude portrait of Frank on his truck in washable paint.
Frank catches them and charges towards Pam with the look of someone ready to start swinging. Enter Brian (Chris Diamantopoulos) with his boom, coming to defend Pam and engaging in a noble scrape with Frank. It was just last week that Brian had entered the frame to console Pam after a fight with Jim (John Krasinski). Earlier in that episode there's a voiceover of Jim commentating on how important the people at work become to you, reminding the viewers that that's how he fell for Pam.
After Brian and Frank are fired from their jobs for their fight in the parking lot, Pam apologizes for being the cause of him losing his job. "If you ever need anything, ever, please call me," says Brian as he departs Dunder Mifflin. So, rather than Brian's appearance last week being a one-off, it appears to have been the beginning of a story arc that will no doubt make Brian a wedge between Pam and Jim.
