“Look, it’s an amazing time when women are searching for and finding their voices,” she added.

The competition’s runner up, Greek-Albanian star Eleni Foureira, who represented Cyprus, also sang about woman empowerment. Her song “Fuego,” is a a club-friendly pop anthem. She sang that, “Nothing can put you down. So you need to just go up and fly.”

After winning, Netta said that the competition was never with Eleni, but always against herself, and always striving to challenging herself. “I’ll keep competing with myself till I die,” she said in an interview following her win.

Upon her arrival to her home country, Netta was greeted enthusiastically by thousands of people at Tel Aviv’s Rabin Square. “This is a great moment for me, for the delegation and for the country. I am happy that we managed to create a reason for joy in a country that does not have a lot of reasons to celebrate. We are all hoarse, we celebrated all night and we didn’t sleep,” she said in an interview after her arrival home.
