The Bachelor fans were reintroduced on Sunday night to the dating show’s 18th star, Juan Pablo Galavis, a former professional soccer player who won the hearts of viewers as one of the men who battled for a rose from The Bachelorette’s Desiree Hartsock last year.

Who Is Juan Pablo?

ABC gave a look inside the life of aspiring husband Galavis on Sunday night’s special, Countdown To Juan Pablo, prior to the Bachelor premiere on Monday. Born in New York, Galavis relocated to his family’s native Venezuela when he was two-years old. He returned to the U.S. for college before heading back to South America to pursue his soccer career.

When Galvais’s daughter Camila was born, he hung up his boots and began a steady career as a consultant for sports and entertainment. Galavais makes it clear that he’s not only looking for a wife on The Bachelor, but a worthy stepmother for his four-year-old. "It's important for the girls to understand that Camila is the biggest part of my life and I want to make sure that I'm a good example for my daughter,” he said in the special.

During Countdown To Juan Pablo, viewers were also introduced to Juan Pablo’s extended family, which had gathered together to send Galavis off on his courting journey. Among other revelations, the cousins exposed that the new bachelor doesn’t have a type and has been somewhat of a ladies' man.

Dramatic 'Bachelor' Season In Store

As for how Galavis will fair managing the attentions of 25 women, it’s uncertain, as previews for the season show the 32-year-old looking somewhat overwhelmed. The previews also foreshadow perhaps one of the most dramatic seasons of The Bachelor yet.
