In September 2024, the couple’s engagement was confirmed when they were featured in a joint interview with Essence. Images of the moment Hurts proposed were included in the magazine, to the delight of readers.
Burrows and Hurts met at the University of Alabama, where he played football from 2016 to 2018. The pair kept an on-again, off-again relationship out of the public eye until January 2023, when she supported the NFL star at the NFC championship. The couple were later spotted at the Time’s 100 Next Gala in October 2023 where Burrows sported a diamond engagement ring.
Hurts told Essence that Burrows was the one, saying, “That’s an irreplaceable feeling. I think that allowed us to get where we are now.”
Burrows was not the only person the star quarterback was shown sharing an emotional moment with. Hurts could also be seen with his father, Averion Hurts, crying into his arms before the trophy ceremony.
“I can’t wait to enjoy this [victory] with my family, and it’s soaking in,” Hurts said to Fox Sports’ commentator Erin Andrews after the game.
Hurts played a stellar game, completing 17-of-22 passes for 221 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. The quarterback was also the leading rusher with 72 yards and 11 attempts for 6.5 yards carry.
