Saul “Canelo” Alvarez’s longtime girlfriend Marisol Gonzalez seemed to be out of the picture during his hard-fought battle against Floyd Mayweather on Sunday night, leading his female fans to wonder if the two have called it quits and if the handsome boxer has moved on to someone else.
Alvarez and Gonzalez, a famous Mexican model and TV personality, had been happily engaged up until recently. In addition to holding down a post as a sports reporter for Televisa Deportes, Gonzalez has competed in the Miss Universe pageant and made her acting debut in 2005 on the telenovela Contra Viento Y Marea. When she reported at the Super Bowl XLVI media day, she drew comparisons to Ines Sainz.
Active on both Twitter and Instagram, Gonzalez didn’t post any words of encouragement for Alvarez as he went into the ring against Mayweather. Instead, she took to her social media profiles to share some new photos of herself.
It’s possible that Alvarez has moved on from the relationship and has a new girlfriend in actress Cynthia Rodriguez, reported Mexican outlet TV Notas. Both Canelo and Rodriguez have denied the romance rumors, but that doesn’t mean there’s nothing to them. The outlet insists Canelo is smitted with his new older woman.
Despite putting up a top-notch effort, Alvarez lost to Mayweather in a split-decision by the judges. The one dissenting judge, C.J. Ross, ruled the fight a 114-114 tie. Due to Mayweather’s clear dominance over the younger boxer in the ring, some believe she should be fired for incompetence or malpractice.
