Robin Roberts, news anchor for Good Morning America, recently came out as gay publicly, but her longtime girlfriend, Amber Laign, remains somewhat of a mystery.
Roberts came out in a Facebook post reflecting on the year 2013 posted on Dec. 29, 2013.
“I am grateful for my entire family, my long time girlfriend, Amber, and friends as we prepare to celebrate a glorious new year together," Roberts wrote.
The announcement came as no surprise to those who work with Roberts and those who know her personally; Roberts has been out to her friends and family for a long time. And, following the post, Roberts received an outpouring of love from fans and supporters.
Laign, Roberts’ significant other, remains a bit of a mystery. A massage therapist who hails from the San Francisco Bay Area, Laign reportedly works helping people recover from injuries. Originally from New Jersey, Laign, 39, studied massage therapy at The Swedish Institute of Health Sciences in 2008 and has been working as a licensed massage therapist for four years. Before Laign went into the field of massage therapy, she worked in fashion sales for Berger & Stevens.
Roberts and Laign were introduced by mutual friends and have been together for 10 years. Laign was present when Roberts received the Arthur Ashe Award for courage at the ESPY Awards in 2013, where she received a standing ovation from the crowd. (Laign is one seat over from Roberts, next to Roberts’ sister.)
