‘White Widow’ Samantha Lewthwaite Suspect In Kenya Mall Attack
Samantha Lewthwaite, a British woman known by the moniker “White Widow,” may have been involved in the Kenya mall attack that took the lives of 72 individuals and injured countless others.
Lewthwaite’s late husband Germaine Lindsay was one of the suicide bombers in the 2005 attacks on London that left 52 people dead. In the aftermath of the terrorist bombing, Lewthwaite was deemed something of a blameless victim, who would be left with raising her children on her own. After denouncing the actions of her husband, Lewthwaite went entirely off the grid.
Not only is Lewthwaite thought to be a sympathizer and supporter of the radical violence, it’s suspected she serves as a financier and may have put her own boots on the ground in Kenya. Witnesses report that a white woman had been among the Somali terrorists, reported CNN. Her involvement in the Westgate Shopping Mall attack is mere speculation, and has not been confirmed.
Despite there not being solid evidence yet to link Lewthwaite to the devastating events at the Kenya mall, a red notice has already been issued by Interpol. The 29-year-old, thought to be going by the alias Natalie Webb, “is wanted by Kenya on charges of being in possession of explosives and conspiracy to commit a felony dating back to December 2011,” Interpol said in a statement.
It is believed that following Lindsay’s suicide bombing and consequent death, “White Widow” Lewthwaite became a member of a terror cell connected to Al-Shabaab in Mombasa, Kenya. Since then, it’s thought she’s been involved in some capacity in a number of terror plots.
