The White House Lights Up With Pride

The White House was alight in the colors of the rainbow Friday, June 26, in celebration of the Supreme Court’s decision on gay marriage, which struck down bans on gay marriage as unconstitutional, legalizing gay marriage in all fifty states.

Following the ruling, President Obama addressed the nation from the White House, calling the Supreme Court’s decision “a victory for America.” “There’s so much more work to be done to extend the full promise of America to every American. But today, we can say in no uncertain terms that we’ve made our union a little more perfect,” he said.

The President also acknowledged the millions of people who fought for gay rights over the years by simply being who they are – the people “who stood up, who came out, who talked to parents – parents who loved their children no matter what.”

“Those countless, often anonymous heroes – they deserve our thanks. They should be very proud. America should be very proud,” he added.

The White House wasn’t the only monument wearing Pride colors to celebrate the historic decision. The Empire State Building and Freedom Tower in New York were adorned with the rainbow colors Friday night, as was Niagara Falls and the castle at Disney World.
