Wendy Williams Deemed ‘Permanently Disabled’ & ‘Legally Incapacitated,’ Guardian Says

Former talk show host Wendy Williams’ health has further deteriorated.

Sabrina E. Morrissey,  Williams’ court-appointed guardian, alleges Williams has become “cognitively impaired, permanently disabled and legally incapacitated.”

After battling alcohol abuse, Graves disease and lymphedema, Williams was placed under court-ordered guardianship in April 2022.

In February 2024, her medical team released a statement that revealed her dementia and aphasia diagnosis: “Over the past few years, questions have been raised at times about Wendy’s ability to process information and many have speculated about Wendy’s condition, particularly when she began to lose words, act erratically at times, and have difficulty understanding financial transactions…In 2023, after undergoing a battery of medical tests, Wendy was officially diagnosed with primary progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia (FTD).”

FTD is incurable, and symptoms only worsen over time.

Morrissey is currently engaged in legal battles with A&E Television Networks, LifeTime Entertainment and other affiliates involved in the release of the docuseries Where is Wendy Williams. The docuseries was released in February, just days after Williams’ diagnosis was made public, and hones in on her life after the end of her show.

According to court documents, Morrissey’s filing reads, “This case arises from the brutally calculated, deliberate actions of powerful and cravenly opportunistic media companies working together with a producer to knowingly exploit [Williams].”

Morrissey further claims Williams was taken advantage of by the series, seeing as she was “clearly incapable of consenting to being filmed, much less humiliated and exploited.”

The filing also alleged that Where Is Wendy Williams? was “filmed without a valid contract and released without Guardian’s consent,” and Morrissey has asked the court to approve “narrowly applied redactions” to certain parts of the lawsuit against the media companies involving her “health, familial relationships, and finances” so as to protect Williams’ “privacy and dignity.”
