This week’s episode of Wayward Pines opens with Xander waking up at the bottom of a deep cave having to fight for his life against an Abbie. He quickly defeats it and climbs out after bashing it’s head in to make sure it’s dead.
Megan explains to her colleagues the new data on the pregnant women in Wayward pines and Kerry suggests she should consult with Dr. Yedlin for help. CJ interrupts the meeting urging everyone to use the area outside of the Pines that the abbie’s have retreated from as crop fields. Megan doesn’t think it’s safe because theres no telling where they have gone but Jason agrees with CJ and thinks it’ll be worth it. Just in case, he instructs Mario to patrol the area beforehand.
Xander is trying to figure out where he is and as he stops for a drink at a stream someone comes up behind him with a knife, and it isn’t an abbie. The attacker questions Xander and asks if he’s a nomad and if Pilcher sent him. He also asks Xander who is in charge now in Wayward Pines. Xander explains to him he just woke up in a pit and the nomad tells him thats what “they” do. It turns out the nomad was in fact sent by Pilcher “to see what he could find.”
Rebecca’s young orphan client Lucy has gotten her period is now ready to be paired and she’s understandably terrified. Rebecca tries to comfort her.
Xander and the nomad build a campfire and try to get to know each other better. The nomad wants to know how Xander got outside of Wayward Pines and he answers that he “colored outside the lines.” He seems happy to be away but the nomad says that he’s ready to go home.
Mario and the other patrollers see two figures outside of the gate and realize it’s Xander and the nomad.
Dr. Yedlin is giving the nomad a check up and asks him who he is along with many other questions about their entire existence. The nomad says “they’re not our enemies, they’re our replacements” before doubling over in pain. Dr. Yedlin sees that he has a serious stomach injury.
The nomad’s name turns out to be Adam. Jason questions Dr. Yedlin about what Adam has told him but Dr. Yedlin refuses to answer. Jason explains that Adam is the only nomad to ever return after being sent out by Pilcher so his knowledge is important. Dr. Yedlin stands firm.
Adam wakes up from a nightmare where he is killing an abby and starts getting dressed to leave. He’s also having hallucinations of abbie’s.
Arlene offers Adam some new clothes and a haircut but she sees its a bad time.
The children are putting on a Wayward Pines-themed musical at school but all Lucy can think about is being paired. Megan goes to check on her but she says it was just something she ate although she doesn’t think Megan believed her.
Adam walks through town drawing a lot of attention to himself and is spotted by Theresa, who knows him. He asks her where Ethan is and she tells him Ethan’s gone. She asks where Ben is and if he’d seen him and Adam says he hasn’t. Theresa blames him for getting her family killed because she trusted him when he was working for Pilcher all along.
Kerry surprises Xander at the shop and tells him that Jason is deciding how to punish him. Xander explains that he doesn’t want to cause any trouble and won’t pick any fights. She asks if Adam helped him survive out there but Xander explains it’s the other way around. He also tells her that the abbie’s aren’t what everyone thinks they are and offers to tell Jason what he knows.
Theresa sees Adam drinking on a bench as he has more hallucinations. This time of an abby killing a young boy eating an ice cream cone.
Dr. Yedlin has told Rebecca what Adam said about the abbie’s being their replacements and she thinks he should tell Jason. Dr. Yedlin refuses to put faith in him.
Megan meets with Frank and reminds him that there are supposed to be no secrets. She saw him checking on Lucy when she wasn’t feeling well. He tells Megan that she’s not ready to be paired and Megan tries to explain that it’s not his decision to make.
Dr. Yedlin meets with CJ and tries to tell him that even though he thinks the abbie’s are gone they probably aren’t. CJ responds with a story of how necessary it is to try and take a risk to bring hope to the community.
As CJ and his team make the trip outside of the walls, Theresa stops and asks to come to find her son.
Rebecca checks on Xander and asks if Jason has been bothering him. She tells him to be good and he promises he will.
As she returns to her salon she finds Megan talking to Lucy. Rebecca sends Lucy outside and she tells Megan that she’s not taking Lucy to be paired. Megan threatens to tell Jason but Rebecca isn’t swayed and she rolls Megan out of the shop herself.
Adam has also joined CJ and Theresa and he admits that he is trying to help her find her son. CJ tries to relate to Adam but he’s not receptive and goes off on his own at night after everyone else has set up camp.
Theresa wakes up to commotion outside of her tent and it seems Adam has found the body of her son.
Rebecca brings Lucy to stay with her and Dr. Yedlin. When she explains what’s going on he can’t believe it. He asks how exactly it works, whether the girls are inseminated or not and Rebecca says she doesn’t think so. She thinks it’s done the “old fashioned way.”
The next day at school Lucy is upset with Frank and blames him for Megan knowing that she’s ready to be paired. He’s devastated that she’s mad at him and sneaks out to get some air that night. He stops on a bench to eat a snack and a carousel turns on behind him. As it stops spinning he sees an abby creeping out from behind one of the horses.
