Wayne Knight, most known for playing Newman on Seinfeld, was the latest victim of a death hoax on Sunday, after reports surfaced he had died in a car accident.

Wayne Knight Debunks Death Hoax

Sunday morning, a website was set up to mimic the popular celebrity gossip site, TMZ, calling itself ‘TMZ Today’ and published a story claiming that Knight was dead. The hoax maintained that Knight and two other passengers were in a car tat crashed into a tractor-trailer Saturday night near the New York-Pennsylvania border.

Soon after the news broke, Knight took to Twitter to dispel the rumors of his untimely demise, tweeting Sunday morning, “Some of you will be glad to hear this, others strangely disappointed, but…I am alive and well!”

Knight, 58, is very much alive and currently stars on The Exes alongside Donald Faison, David Alan Basche and Kristen Johnson. In fact, Sunday, March 16, Faison posted a photo on Instagram of him and his wife, with Knight playfully posing in the background.

Knight’s other co-stars have also joked about the death hoax on Twitter.

Knight also maintained his sense of humor despite his death by Internet hoax, tweeting, “Does someone have to DIE to trend?”

Real Victims Of Car Crash

According to reports, the car crash used in the Knight death hoax was, sadly, real and resulted in the death of a 26-year-old woman. The woman reportedly lost control of her vehicle and crashed into an oncoming tractor-trailer. She was found dead Sunday morning. Also in the car were a 23-year-old man and a 3- or 4-year-old boy who are currently hospitalized and being treated for critical injuries.

In one of his tweets addressing the matter, Knight took a moment to offer his condolences to the woman and her family.
