Nike aired its first ad with Tiger Woods since his sex scandal broke last December on Wednesday, and the Web is abuzz about its daring tactic.
The black and white ad features a pensive looking Woods standing silent on a golf course. As the camera zooms in on his face, the voice of Tiger’s dead father, Earl Woods, is played. "Tiger, I am more prone to be inquisitive, to promote discussion. I want to find out what your thinking was. I want to find out what your feelings are and, did you learn anything?" Towards the end of the voiceover, unseen photographers start taking pictures of Woods and the ad cuts to the Nike logo. Tiger never says a word.
The 30-second commercial aired on the Golf Channel and ESPN Wednesday. "We support Tiger and his family," a Nike spokesman told the New York Daily News. "As he returns to competitive golf, the ad addresses his time away from the game using the powerful words of his father." –JOE GALBO
