Steve Carell dropped a bombshell during his UK promotional tour for Date Night Wednesday announcing that this next season of The Office might also be his last.
An interviewer asked Carell how long his contract for the hit NBC show lasted. Carell answered, "Through next season." When asked if he would stay after that, Carell replied, "I don’t think so. I think that will probably be my last year."
Wags have speculated that Carell’s answer was no more than a clever way of letting NBC know that his new contract better bring some more bucks with it. Others have suggested that his film career is more than enough work to keep him busy and, having been on The Office for six seasons, Carell is looking to move on.
Carell has long been hailed as the show’s comedic anchor, and his original portrayal of Ricky Gervais’ character a huge reason for its success.
