Melania Trump released a seven-minute farewell video on Monday, thanking those who have “inspired” her over the last four years as First Lady. Additionally, she called upon all Americans to join in her “Be Best” initiative. “Focus on what unites us,” she said. “To rise above what divides us. To always choose love over hatred, peace over violence, and others before yourself.”
Stephen Colbert’s The Late Show discussed the video on Monday night’s show, discussing reports that Melania “cannot wait” to return home to New York. On the show, he had Broadway star Laura Benanti, who has appeared on the show multiple times over the past four years playing the First Lady.
In the video segment, Benanti performed a musical number as Melania, to the tune of “Belle” from Beauty and the Beast, about why she is looking forward to returning to New York City.
