Broadway will get a little funnier next year as the creators of South Park, Trey Parker and Matt Stone, have written a musical comedy set to debut in March 2011.
Titled The Book of Mormon the show will feature music and lyrics written by Parker and Stone along with Robert Lopez, a co-creator of the Tony award winning puppet-musical Avenue Q. The show will be directed by both Parker and Q director Jason Moore.
The show’s producers said that casting and other production information would be announced at a later date.
South Park first appeared on Comedy Central in 1997 and his since been hailed as "one of the smartest shows on television." A 2003 South Park episode titled "All About Mormons" mocked the faith and its founder, Joseph Smith, as being "dumb."
