This week’s Saturday Night Live opened with a parody of the New Hampshire Democratic debate, which featured stars reprising their roles as the Democratic front runners, like Larry David as Bernie Sanders, Rachel Dratch as Amy Klobuchar, and Jason Sudeikis as Joe Biden.
Core cast members also reprised their roles. Kate McKinnon played Elizabeth Warren, Colin Jost played Pete Buttigieg and Bowen Yang played Andrew Yang. Pete Davidson played Tom Steyer.
Some of the best lines of the sketch came from Sudeikis playing Biden, who came in fourth in the Iowa caucus.
“By the time we get to South Cackalackey, Joe Biden’s gonna do what Joe Biden does best: creep up from behind. Just when you think your lead is safe, my numbers are gonna sneak up and surprise you with a nice sweet kiss on the neck.”
David’s Sanders impression also got some big laughs:
“Hey, I have an idea for an app. It’s called no apps. No apps, no computers, no gadgets, no gizmos,” he said in reference to the Iowa caucus’ issues with the vote count reporting app. “You show up to your polling place, take a number like you do at the butcher, they call your ticket. You walk up to the counter and say to the guy: ‘Give me a pound of whatever’s about to go bad.'”
Of course, McKinnon as Warren had some great lines too:
“You’re not going to out-poor me, all right? My campaign is broke as hell. My biggest contributions are the pennies from loafers and whatever the concerned moms of Bernie Bros can afford.”
