A distinctly non-Hollywood speaker, former President Bill Clinton, 66, stopped by the Golden Globes on Sunday night to introduce the nominated film, Lincoln, starring Daniel Day Lewis, Sally Field, David Strathairn, Tommy Lee Jones, James Spader, Hal Holbrook and Joseph Gordon-Levitt.
Clinton described the Abraham Lincoln movie, saying, "A tough fight to push a bill through a bitterly divided House of Representatives — winning it required the president to make a lot of unsavory deals that had nothing to do with the big issue." Then he joked, "I wouldn't know anything about that," while the crowd chuckled.
"President Lincoln's struggle to abolish slavery reminds us that enduring progress is forged in a cauldron of both principle and compromise," Clinton said. "This brilliant film shows us how he did it and gives us hope that we can do it again."
But it was host Amy Poehler's comment after Clinton's speech that got the most attention. "Wow, what an exciting special guest," Poehler said. "That was Hillary Clinton's husband."
