Gary Oldman, Samuel L. Jackson, Abbie Cornish, Hugh Laurie and The Killing's Joel Kinnaman will be remaking the 1987 sci-fi hit, RoboCop, which initially starred Peter Weller, Nancy Allen and Kurtwood Smith, about a wounded Detroit cop who later becomes transformed into a crime-fighting cyborg.
Paul Verhoeven, who also directed the 1990 version of Total Recall, directed the original RoboCop, and now relative newcomer Jose Padilha will be taking the reigns. Incidentally, there is also a remake of Total Recall, which initially starred Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sharon Stone, Michael Ironside and Rachel Ticotin, this time around starring Colin Farrell, Bryan Cranston, Kate Beckinsale, Jessica Biel, Bill Nighy and Ethan Hawke, on its way to theaters on August 3, 2012.
RoboCop will hit theaters almost exactly one year later, on August 9, 2013.
