The former First Lady Michelle Obama made a virtual appearance on Conan last Wednesday, where she went into detail about her children’s excitement at the prospect of spending time together.
Michelle went into detail about her family’s productiveness during the early days of the pandemic. “We were being all organized, and we would spend the days apart doing our respective work — the girls were still in classes in the spring — and so we would be working and then doing a little exercise, and then come together in the evenings,” Michelle told Conan O’Brien. She went on to recount how her husband, former President Barack Obama, taught his daughters, Sasha Obama and Malia Obama, to play spades, while then hosting an art exhibit day where each member of the family showed off their personally made pieces.
The peace would not last for long as the summer came. “I think first our kids got a little sick of us, which was fine, ’cause we were pretty much sick of them,” Michelle said. The Becoming author described how the only alleviation from the stress was regular outings to a vineyard, Barack’s preoccupation own memoir, A Promised Land, and her children’s eventual Zoom classes.
Michelle spoke at length about the importance of voting in the November elections. She even offered a surprise message to When We All Vote volunteers. “The work that you’re doing couldn’t be more important,” Michelle told the group. “I am so proud of you, and it’s like when I see your faces, that makes me want to work harder because I think you all deserve leadership that reflects who you all are.”
