There were many incredible wins and speeches last night at the Emmy Awards, but one of the best moments came when Lizzo accepted an award for her new Amazon Prime Video reality show Lizzo’s Watch Out For The Big Grrls. The show won the Best Reality Competition Program award, and the singer was one of the winners as an executive producer.
Lizzo was sobbing as she approached the stage for the speech in a gorgeous flowing red gown.
“I’m very emotional, the trophy is nice but my emotion is for these people who are on this stage with me,” the singer said.
She noted the stories her cast shared are “not unique, they just don’t get the platform. Telling stories, let’s just tell more stories.”
She added that when she was younger she always wanted to see “someone fat like me, black like me, beautiful like me,” represented in the media. Lizzo humorously said that if she got to go back in time, she’d say, “B––ch, it’s gonna have to be you.”
