In the first part of a two-part interview with Oprah Winfrey on her OWN network, Lance Armstrong performed an about-face on years of denial and confessed to doping en route to winning his seven straight Tour de France titles.
Lance Armstrong's Confession
For the first time since Armstrong was stripped of his seven Tour de France titles and banned from elite competition by the United States Anti-Doping Agency, he sat down for a no-holds-barred interview, with Oprah. For years, he's denied that he used banned substances to enhance his cycling performance.
Watch Part 2 of Oprah's interview with Lance Armstrong on Friday, January 18, at 9 p.m. ET/PT on OWN. The interview will be simultaneously streamed LIVE worldwide on Oprah.com.
In the in-depth confessional, Armstrong admitted to orchestrating a doping scandal while leading the U.S. Postal Service Team and noted he has yet to make peace with his wife, Betsy, who he once accused of making up lies about his doping practices, however for much of the interview Armstrong made a point of not naming names. Still, Armstrong was open about some of the mental hoops he jumped through to justify his doping practices.
"My cocktail, so to speak, was only EPO (erythropoietin), but not a lot, transfusions and testosterone, which in a weird way I almost justified because of my history obviously with testicular cancer and losing… I thought surely I’m running low."
Part 2 of Armstrong’s interview with Oprah Winfrey will air both on OWN and OPRAH.com on Friday at 9 p.m. E.T.
