From the looks of his new Paramount Pictures flick, Jack Reacher, which launched in theaters at the opening of The Amazing Spider-Man on Tuesday (which also happened to be Cruise's birthday), you wouldn't know that superstar Tom Cruise's personal life is in shambles, following the recent breakup between him and wife Katie Holmes, who filed for divorce from Cruise last week and split with their daughter, Suri Cruise.
While Cruise is reportedly reeling from the sudden departure of Holmes and Suri, he should remember that things weren't always so peachy between him and Paramount, either, according to the New York Daily News. The studio briefly parted ways with Cruise in 2006 after Cruise's openly erratic behavior on Oprah Winfrey's show turned public opinion against him.
Nowadays all is forgiven between Cruise and Paramount, as they welcomed him back with open arms for last year's Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol, which, incidentally, made $690 million worldwide.
Paramount's new Jack Reacher reveals Cruise as the titular character, an ex-military investigator who takes on a renegade sniper. "There's this guy," says a man on a hospital cot as the camera focuses on Cruise from different angles, not yet showing his face. "He's a kind of cop, or at least he used to be. He doesn't care about proof; he doesn't care about the law; he only cares about what's right."
Jack Reacher will hit theaters on December 21, 2012.
