WATCH: 'Hatfields And McCoys' Debuts on History Channel

Reliable Hollywood heavyweights Kevin Costner, 57, Tom Berenger, 62, and Bill Paxton, 57, debuted in the History Channel's anticipated three-night miniseries, Hatfields & McCoys, on Memorial Day.

The new Hatfields & McCoys miniseries revisits the historical feud between the two families, from West Virginia and Kentucky, respectively, whose epic rivalry began in the 1870s. Paxton plays Randall McCoy and Costner plays "Devil" Anse Hatfield, who served together in the Confederate army during the Civil War before all hell broke loose between them. The show is about that hell.

More than anything, however, people appreciate Costner stepping back into a good Western as the chilling Hatfield patriarch. "Like any man of war, he is not willing to fight over anything," Costner said of Hatfield, reports Zap2It. "There's a serenity to Devil Anse."

Berenger feels slightly differently in his approach to Jim Vance, "Devil" Anse's uncle, whom he describes his character's "recipe" as a mixture of a "raccoon with rabies, a psychopath, a misogynist, and throw in a pinch of Bruce Dern." To impress the point, Berenger clarified about the Hatfields and McCoys, "They are a bunch of hillbillies that went at each other."

Hatfields & McCoys will continue tonight and Wednesday night on the History Channel at 9 p.m. EST.
