WATCH: First Trailer For ‘Sweet Tooth’ Released
The first official trailer for the upcoming fantasy-drama television series Sweet Tooth has been released. Sweet Tooth was created by Jim Mickle and is based on the Vertigo comic book series of the same name by Jeff Lemire. The series is slated to premiere on Netflix and is produced by Robert Downey Jr. and his wife Susan. The show takes place in a post-apocalyptic world in which an event called “The Great Crumble” caused the emergence of a species called “hybrids,” a being that is born part human and part animal. Most humans now attempt to hunt down and kill these hybrids. Looking for a new place to call home, a hybrid deer boy named Gus (Christian Convery) sets out on a journey with a wandering loner named Jeppard (Nonso Anozie) to find a new home and discover his past.
The trailer opens with a shot of a mountain and then cuts to a hospital where a narrator (James Brolin) begins to speak. The narrator states that some stories have a beginning, but their story begins in a different place. A nurse is shown pulling out a couple’s baby for them. The parents are horrified to discover that the baby is a hybrid of a dog. The music begins to pick up as the audience is shown Gus and his father (Will Forte). While footage of the first few days of “The Great Crumble” is seen, the narrator explains that no one is sure if the hybrids or the virus that caused this came first. The question would become the biggest mystery of their lifetime.
The narrator then introduces Gus, whom everyone has come to know as “Sweet Tooth.” Several shots are seen of Gus and Jeppard on their journey. Gus’ father explains to his son that there are bad people who will try to hunt him down because he is different and that he must be brave. Several action scenes are shown with other characters, including the main villain General Steven Abbot (Neil Sandilands) who wants to hunt down the remaining hybrids. The trailer ends with Gus alone in the woods as he stops to ponder on what he should do next. The title card is then shown as the preview comes to a close.
Sweet Tooth is set to premiere on June 4 on the Netflix streaming service.
