The upcoming superhero film Wonder Woman 1984 starring Gal Gadot has been highly anticipated by fans for quite some time now. Originally set to be released on Dec. 13, 2019, the film was moved up to Nov. 1, only to be pushed into next year for June 25, 2020. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic the film was pushed back to Aug. 14, 2020 before experiencing yet another delay for the release date. It was finally decided that the movie would be released on Oct. 2. During Wonder Woman 1984’s panel for the online event DC Fandome, the director of the movie Patty Jenkins revealed the final trailer for the film to the audience.
The trailer opens with a young Diana training with the other Amazon Warriors in an arena, before cutting to her as an adult Wonder Woman, mirroring these actions. The next shot shows the title character swinging across lightening with her Lasso of Truth during a storm. The trailer then shows footage of the main antagonist Maxwell Lord, played by Pedro Pascal promising to the public that he could give them anything that they want and dream of, before Chris Pine’s Steve Trevor appears to Diana where they tearfully reunite. The trailer then shifts focus to Kristen Wiig’s character Barbara Ann Minerva, who is set to become Wonder Woman’s famous arch-nemesis Cheetah. Dialogue is heard where Barbara expresses her jealousy of Diana and how she wishes to become an apex predator. During this, a shot of Wonder Woman and Cheetah’s first fight is shown. Diana’s relationship with Steve is then once again shown, where the two take off in a jet and discuss on how the could be followed. Towards the end of the trailer, the audience is finally shown the first full appearance of Cheetah, with a horrified Wonder Woman asking what she did to herself before another fight scene occurs. The trailer then ends with a stinger of Steve awkwardly trying on different 1980s themed clothing such as a fanny pack and parachute pants.
The trailer unsurprisingly received praise for its intriguing visuals, humor, and epic score. However, some people criticized the CGI for Cheetah, claiming that it looks uncanny. Regardless, many people are exited to see the long awaited sequel to Wonder Woman release on Oct. 2.
