Catherine O’Hara delivered her acceptance speech for the Canadian Screen Award for “Best Actress, Comedy” from her home on Wednesday night. The socially distant acceptance was for her performance as Moira Rose on Schitt’s Creek for the fifth year running.
“I hope you and your families are well, and enjoying the great indoors,” O’Hara opened. “I feel like one very lucky lady to have worked on Schitt’s Creek,” until orchestra music started to play. O’Hara tried to speak over the music thanking her co-stars Eugene Levy and Dan Levy. By the end, O’Hara started to sing along to the tune of the music acting as her character Moira Rose.
The Schitt’s Creek Twitter recognized O’Hara’s win and speech by tweeting, “Catherine O’Hara wins Best Actress, Comedy, at the #CdnScreenAwards for the fifth year running. Massive congratulations, Catherine!” The account then attached the video and said, “no one does acceptance speeches like Catherine O’Hara.”
Schitt’s Creek had its series finale in April after six seasons. Show creator, actor and producer Dan Levy, told EW, “The great thing about these characters and where we leave them is that we don’t know as an audience what’s going to happen to them, but we know it’s going to be fine. When I leave a show, I want to think about what’s going on and the lives that they’re going to lead, and leave some things unsaid so that it doesn’t feel final. It feels like now’s the time that we get to go away from experiencing this, but they’re going to keep living.”
Dan, who plays David Rose, created Schitt’s Creek with his father Eugene who also had a starring role as Johnny Rose. Eugene’s daughter Sarah Levy appears as the recurring character Twyla Sands.
