Cardi B posted an Instagram TV (IGTV) video on Friday encouraging people to vote amid the national protests against police brutality.
The singer said in her video, “Seeing people looting and going extremely outraged, it makes me feel like, ‘Yes! Finally! Finally motherf—ers is gonna hear us now. Yeah!’ And as much as people is so against it, at this point I feel like I’m not against it.”
George Floyd was killed in police custody on May 25 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. His death has sparked a slew of protests and riots across the nation, both peaceful and violent. There has also been an immense social media response to his death including Tuesday’s “Blackout Tuesday.”
Cardi B continued, “It’s really frustrating… police brutality been going on even way before I was born, but it has been more visual ever since social media started getting popping. I feel like I have done videos against police brutality, I feel like this is like my seventh time. I feel I’ve been doing police brutality videos ever since my teeth been f—ed up. And the only s—t that changed has been my f—ing teeth.”
She then used her platform to urge people to vote. “And when I say voting I’m not only talking about the president. We could vote for mayors, we could vote for judges, and we could also vote for D.A.’s,” she said.
Since posting her IGTV video, the singer also took part in “Blackout Tuesday” by posting a black square to her Instagram account. She also encouraged her followers to vote against President Donald Trump and the Republican Party in a more recent post.
