Brian Robinson, a rookie running back for the Washington Commanders, was the victim of an attempted armed robbery or carjacking, and the NFL reports that Robinson sustained “non-life threatening injuries and is currently being treated at the hospital.”
According to the police, Robinson was found outdoors in the D.C. area with two gunshot wounds to his glute and lower leg. There are two suspects who were involved in the shooting, and one firearm was recovered near the scene.
The player went through minor surgery in the hospital, but he seems to be doing alright in recovery. Robinson’s coach, Ron Rivera said, “it’ll be a matter of time” before Robinson’s back on the field.
“It’s really just about the healing process,” Rivera told reporters, though he assured fans that the player’s progress was “positive.”
Robinson was a third-round draft pick for the Commanders in the 2022 NFL draft, and the football season hasn’t even fully started before this injury.
In two preseason games, Robinson had a solid showing racking up 14 carries and 57 total yards, along with one touchdown.
