Elizabeth Hasselbeck may have gotten the boot from her hosting gig on ABC’s The View, Us Weekly reported on Friday.
Hasselbeck would be following in the departing footsteps of cohost Joy Behar, who announced that she would not be returning to The View earlier in the week. However, unlike Behar who is leaving on her own terms, Hasselbeck’s departure was apparently out of her hands. Her staunch conservatism was allegedly not being well received by the daytime talk show’s audience.
"The viewers they polled all said she was too extreme and right wing," an insider told Us Weekly. "People did not watch the show because of Elisabeth. So they told her yesterday her contract would not be renewed."
However, when reached for comment, a rep for The View said in a statement: "Elisabeth Hasselbeck is a valued member of The View and has a long term contract."
Hasselbeck has been on The View since 2003; after beating out the rest of the competition to replace Lisa Ling, the fiery former Survivor contestant won a seat at the table. She was already the main source of conflict when Whoopi Goldberg and Sherri Shepherd joined the show in 2007, replacing Rosie O’Donnell and Starr Jones.
Behar also frequently butted heads with Hasselbeck. The comedienne spent over 16 years with The View, having provided a sense of humor and a liberal outlook on the show since its inception in 1997.
