‘WandaVision’ Introduces First Character From ‘The X-Men’ Film Series Into MCU With Evan Peters As Quicksilver

On February 5, the series WandaVision on Disney+ presented one of the biggest twists to ever happen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe by bringing in Evan Peters as the character Pietro Maximoff/Quicksilver, making it the first ever time a character from the X-Men movies produced by 20th Century Fox appeared in the MCU. This is the fifth time in which Peters has portrayed the character of Quicksilver. Peters previously portrayed the role in X-Men: Days of Future Past, X-Men: Apocalypse, Deadpool 2 (albeit only for a brief non-speaking cameo) and Dark Phoenix. Due to rights issues, Peters’ version of the character had to have his name changed from Pietro to Peter.

It originally seemed like the X-Men would be recast after Disney bought 20th Century Fox and rebooted the X-Men film series. The fact that the MCU already had a Quicksilver portrayed by Aaron Taylor-Johnson that had to be killed off so Fox could keep the character. Peters’ version of Quicksilver appears during the end of WandaVision’s fifth installment, titled “On A Very Special Episode…,” where the character inadvertently interrupts a potential fight between Wanda (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (Paul Bettany) when the latter starts to demand answers on what Wanda is hiding and why she has used mind control over several innocent people. When Wanda answers the door, the audience is briefly shown Pietro from the back of the head, leading to the possibility that it might be the version from Avengers: Age of Ultron. However, it is soon revealed that it is the one from the X-Men film series. Darcy Lewis (Kat Dennings) even notes the difference, asking how Wanda recast Pietro. Many fans were both shocked and thrilled by the revelation as Peters’ Quicksilver was always considered a highlight even in the bad X-Men movies. The introduction of Peters’ Quicksilver opens up the possibility of other characters from the X-Men film series to appear in the MCU like James McAvoy’s Professor X, Michael Fassbender’s Magneto or Sophie Turner’s Jean Grey.
