Greed really must be good—23 years after the original Wall Street, its sequel Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps took the number one spot at the weekend box office. The finance thriller made $19 million dollars this weekend, marking star Michael Douglas‘s second biggest box office open ever, after 2001’s You, Me and Dupree, and director Oliver Stone‘s biggest opening weekend of his career.
In second was the animated fantasy flick, Legends of the Guardian: The Owls of Ga’Hoole with $16.3 million. Holding strong at third was Ben Affleck‘s Boston drama The Town, which grossed $16 million for the weekend. Proving that Betty White cannot in fact do anything, poorly reviewed comedy You Again made only $8.3 million in its first weekend out, debuting in fifth. Breezy high school comedy Easy A dropped to fourth, making $10.7 million for the weekend. –AMY LEE
