‘The Walking Dead’ And ‘Fear The Walking Dead’ Crossover Is Happening

The Walking Dead fandom can rejoice as Robert Kirkman announced that AMC’s two hit shows will finally crossover.

At Saturday’s Walking Dead panel at New York Comic Con, Kirkman gave the announcement that fans have been clamoring for since Fear the Walking Dead premiered.

Up until now, the creator of the comic-turned-hit-series has denied that a merging of the two shows would happen, but has dropped hints in the past that a crossover could be a possibility. At the panel, Kirkman made it official, saying, “We’ve finally gotten to a place [within Fear the Walking Dead] where we can play with some things.”

According to Kirkman, one character will appear on both shows somehow, but he did not specify which character or from which series. He speculated on what the crossover could mean, teasing that a character’s backstory could connect the two shows, or perhaps an older version of a Fear the Walking Dead character could show up on The Walking Dead.

Although Kirkman didn’t offer any details beyond that, a report by Entertainment Weekly states the crossover will likely happen sometime during the next year.

Following the reveal, AMC tweeted out a merged poster of the two series that read, “The Worlds Collide,” with the caption “This is real.”

After a depressingly bleak Season 7 of The Walking Dead (rip Glenn), there appears to be a good amount of fan service in the upcoming eighth season. In addition to the highly anticipated crossover episode, producers at the Comic Con panel teased that the Season 8 premiere (which also happens to be the series 100th episode) will have a lot of minutia that diehard fans of the series will pick up on, including a shot-for-shot recreation of an iconic scene.

Season 8 of The Walking Dead premieres October 22, at 9 p.m. EST on AMC.
