The top nine Voice contestants competed tonight in hopes of making it to the semi-finals next week.
Paxton Ingram from Team Blake opened the show with his rendition of Whitney Houston’s “I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me).” He’s continuing his trend of making popular female hits his own. All of the coaches praised him finding his voice, especially Adam Levine calling his style “infectious.”
Pink’s new song from Alice Through the Looking Glass debuted ahead of her appearance on the show next week.
The performances continued with another member of Team Blake, Mary Sarah who performed “My Church” by Maren Morris. Blake’s suggestion to lose the guitar during the performance proved to be a good one since it was something the rest of the judges praised. This performance was called her “best connection to a song” by Pharrell Williams.
Nick Hagelin from Team Christina was the next performance. Nick’s had a few lucky breaks this season, being brought back after being eliminated. Performing Drake’s “Hold On, We’re Going Home,” he used his own marriage struggles for inspiration. The judges applauded him for his connection with the audience and knowing when to push the envelope.
The only member of Team Pharrell, Hannah Huston, performed next. Being the last member of the team has given her the determination that other contestants may not have. She picked the song “Say You Love Me” by Jesse Ware. Her hopes of moving the audience were achieved as Blake said it was her best performance yet.
Florida Georgia Line performed new song “Holy” at the halfway point of the show.
Shalyah Fearing was the first contestant from Team Adam to perform tonight. Choosing Sam Cooke’s “A Change Gone Come” was a smart idea according to Adam and had a lot of meaning for her as well, he encouraged her to convey the message and make it her own. The judges were impressed for what she was able to accomplish with her choice of song, especially only being 16.
The other member of Team Adam, Laith Al-Saadi was next. Having the most downloaded song (from voice contestants) on iTunes while in the blues genre is a huge accomplishment but he is still focused and humble. He picked “We’ve Got Tonight” by Bob Seger as his first ballad. Pharrell praised the performance and even pleaded to the audience to vote him through although he’s not a member of his team which proves how well he did.
Blake and Gwen performed new song “Go Ahead and Break my Heart” for the first time ever.
Adam Wakefield, final contestant from Team Blake, was up next. Bonnie Raitt’s “Love Has No Pride” was his song choice. He “wailed” like Blake wanted him to and the judges and audience loved it.
Alisan Porter was the second to last Team Christina member and performer of the night. She chose “Cryin’” by Aerosmith and personalized Steven Tyler’s signature style. Getting one of the loudest reactions from the audience, she wowed the judges and not just “for a mom.”
The final performance of the night was Bryan Bautista. Coming off of the success of his performance in Spanish last week, he’s keeping up the momentum with “1+1” by Beyoncé. Christina encouraged him not to shy away from the passion at the end of the song and he listened, much to the delight of all the judges.
Fans are reminded to vote on all platforms, voting closes at noon EST in preparation for tomorrow’s result show.
