Team Adam’s Deanna Johnson and Brian Johnson found themselves in the bottom three with Team Pharrell’s Mia Z to compete for the Instant Save on the Live Top 12 Results show of The Voice.
Celebrity advisor and reigning former Jonas Brother, Nick Jonas, started off the show with a performance of his new single, “Chains.”
Following Nick Jonas’ performance, the coaches announced their next round of celebrity advisors coming to the show: Adam Levine is bringing in Dave Stewart, Pharrell Williams will team up with Ryan Tedder, Christina Aguilera invited Mark Ronson onto the show and Blake Shelton is having Scott Hendricks help out his team.
Carson Daly invited all the Top 12 contestants onto the stage and announced the first three artists saved by America’s votes: Kimberly Nichole (Team Xtina), Sawyer Fredericks (Team Pharrell) and Meghan Linsey (Team Blake).
With the first round of saved artists out of the way, Team Blake’s Meghan Linsey, Corey Kent White and Hannah Kirby took the stage to perform with their coach, Blake. The country/soul quartet sang Wilson Pickett’s “In The Midnight Hour.”
Once again, Carson Daly gathered the remaining contestants to the stage to announce the next round of saves: Joshua Davis (Team Adam), India Carney (Team Christina) and Hannah Kirby (Team Blake).
Team Christina was up next, with India Carney, Kimberly Nichole, Rob Taylor and Ms. Aguilera, herself, singing “Hotel California.”
Finally, it was time to announce the last three artists saved from elimination: Koryn Hawthorne (Team Pharrell), Rob Taylor (Team Christina) and Corey Kent White (Team Blake). Left to perform for their lives in the bottom three were Team Pharrell’s Mia Z and two thirds of Team Adam, Brian Johnson and Deanna Johnson.
As Carson explained, the three contestants in the bottom each got to perform a song for viewers and then, once Carson gave the go ahead, the viewers were told to rush to Twitter and send tweets to save their favorite artists – #VoiceSaveMia, #VoiceSaveDeanna or #VoiceSaveBrian.
First up: Mia Z performed “Stormy Monday” for her final song, showing off her range, and, yes, those crazy whistle tones.
Brian Johnson was up next, singing “Amazed.” Brian’s performances are always solid, but the slow, emotional song failed to show off a new side to the artist, which is probably why he didn’t get the coveted Voice Save.
Finally, Deanna Johnson took the stage with Bruno Mars’ “It Will Rain,” finally breaking out of her Christian music niche.
Carson gave viewers the go ahead to begin voting, and five minutes later, it was announced that Deanna was awarded the Instant Save!
Team Adam: Deanna Johnson, Joshua Davis
Team Pharrell: Koryn Hawthorne, Sawyer Fredericks
Team Christina: Kimberly Nichole, India Carney, Rob Taylor
Team Blake: Corey Kent White, Meghan Linsey, Hannah Kirby
The Top 10 will perform live on The Voice Monday at 8 p.m. on NBC.
