Sawyer Fredericks, India Carney, Koryn Hawthorne, Joshua Davis and Meghan Linsey gave it their all in the Live Semifinal Performances on The Voice.

The Voice Recap: Top 5 Perform In Live Semifinals

Each of the Top 5 contestants performed twice on the live semifinals: one coach choice and one song dedicated to their individual hometowns.

JOSHUA DAVIS (Team Adam)

“I Can’t Make You Love Me” by Bonnie Raitt

Team Adam’s Joshua Davis kicked it off with a soft rendition of “I Can’t Make You Love Me.” Adam Levine introduced him by saying that he wanted Joshua to do a song that would highlight his subtle delivery and performance style. Joshua doesn’t have the giant belts and show-stopping range of some other contestants, so Adam wanted to emphasize his strengths with this performance. Joshua milked his comforting rasp for all it was worth during the performance, which was perfectly sweet and heartfelt. Blake said the performance reminded him of the first time he heard Joshua sing – the soft quality that is perfect for sitting around a campfire. “I definitely liked it. It was super lovely,” Christina said, which sums it right up.

“When I Paint My Masterpiece” by The Band/Bob Dylan

After a short video showing Joshua’s hometown visit – the high school marching band welcomed him home – Josh took to the stage to perform “When I Paint My Masterpiece” in honor of his hometown. The uptempo track was a nice departure from his first performance, and Joshua really seemed to have fun singing the song. “I’ve become such a fan of yours, Josh,” Christina told him.

KORYN HAWTHORNE (Team Pharrell)

“One” by U2

Pharrell Williams kept up with the ‘inspirational’ theme for Koryn Hawthorne, giving her a kind of sappy U2 track. Koryn delivered with her usual moving flair, and it was fun to see Koryn perform a rock song with a nice groove to it. Pharrell was super fired up by the performance, as were Adam and Christina. “I really love you Koryn. I’ve seen you grown leaps and bounds since the beginning,” Christina told her former mentee.

“Oh Mary Don’t You Weep”

During her hometown visit, Koryn got a parade dedicated to her, thrown together by her high school and complete with her cheerleader friends. The Mayor of Abbeville even declared May 6th ‘Koryn Hawthorne Day’ and presented her with a key to the city. She dedicated “Oh Mary Don’t You Weep” to her hometown, taking it back to her first Live Show performance with a moving religious anthem. Dressed in a white gown, Koryn really let loose with this dramatic performance. The coaches were up out of their seats, giving her the first standing ovation of the night. Adam looked like he couldn’t believe what he had just seen, and Pharrell had tears in his eyes. “From where you started, to where you are now, never before in the history of this show have I ever seen such a drastic, incredible, unbelievable journey – I can’t believe the difference,” Adam said. Pharrell delivered a moving speech, saying that Koryn’s performance proved “that anything is possible when you put God first.”

MEGHAN LINSEY (Team Blake)

“I’m Not The Only One” by Sam Smith

The Sam Smith train keeps on going, with Blake Shelton giving Meghan Linsey Smith’s heartbreaking “I’m Not The Only One.” This was a great song choice for Meghan, who can get a bit aggressive when belting out high tempo anthems. Meghan showcased her ability to use the dynamics in her voice to really sell the emotion in the song. Pharrell complimented her ability to take on any genre, and Adam said he envied how much she connected emotionally to the song. “Every performance seems to be almost as if it’s your last in your mind. And I always want to teach my Team that. So I just want to commend you on your commitment to the moment throughout this competition,” Adam told her.

“Tennessee Whiskey” by George Jones

Meghan dedicated her second song, “Tennessee Whiskey,” to the town where her music career began: Nashville. Meghan added her soulful touch to the country track, and the crowd loved it – as did the coaches. “Meghan, that was awesome. You never cease to impress me with your vocals… You can do it all,” Christina said. Blake was beside himself, telling Meghan she just won the hearts of country fans everywhere.

INDIA CARNEY (Team Christina)

“Gravity” by Sara Bareilles

Christina Aguilera tasked India Carney with performing “Gravity,” a song Xtina described as “a singer’s song.” The song was pretty perfectly tailored to fit India, who embraces using her voice to tell a story in every single performance. “You let it build, and you really told a story,” Adam said. Blake was blown away by her “powerful” performance, and Christina commended her for being a “smart” singer who has complete control over her voice.

“Earth Song” by Michael Jackson

India decided to embrace her inner diva for her performance of “Earth Song” for her hometown of NYC. India left her exquisite control behind for this performance, instead choosing to attack the vocals with everything she had, resulting in a truly moving performance that got her the second standing ovation of the night.

SAWYER FREDERICKS (Team Pharrell)

“For What It’s Worth” by Buffalo Springfield

Sawyer Fredericks finally returned to his folksy roots with “For What It’s Worth,” a song Pharrell chose for its social message. Sawyer looked his most comfortable yet on stage, flanked by a nice group of band members and singing from behind his guitar. Sawyer could still work a little bit on his stage presence, but he seemed so happy during this performance, his tendency to stand still throughout his performances almost didn’t matter. His performance got the biggest reaction from the crowd and the coaches. When Pharrell stood up and asked the crowd to applaud Sawyer, the young singer seemed almost surprised by all the support, as if he truly has no idea how good he is.

“A Thousand Years” by Christina Perri

Sawyer, who also got a parade in his hometown, dedicated “A Thousand Years” to the Village of Fultonville. Sawyer ditched his guitar for this performance, trading it in for a simple ballerina music box. Sawyer pushed himself vocally with this performance, showing off an impressive belt. He also seemed at ease working the stage and smiling at some female fans in the audience. “Listen, man, you’re clearly the frontrunner… You’re the real deal,” Blake told him, saying what everyone was thinking.

One look at the iTunes charts shows that Sawyer Fredericks will be sailing through to the finale, but the other three joining him are anybody’s guess. The top 4 will be revealed Tuesday at 8 p.m. on NBC’s The Voice.
