The final four contestants on this season’s The Voice performed last night, and await the crowning of the champion on Tuesday’s two-hour finale.
Each of the performers sang three songs – an original, a cover, and a duet with their team leader. First to sing was Billy Gilman, from Adam Levine‘s squad. He did a smooth cover of Frank Sinatra’s “My Way,” a song he and Levine felt expressed Gilman’s journey from failed child star to that moment. “How do you not feel like you’ve just won The Voice right now?” asked Levine.
Next came Team Adam’s Josh Gallagher with an original called “Pick Any Small Town.” Then we saw Team Alicia Keys‘ 17-year-old Wé McDonald sing a duet of Stevie Wonder‘s version of classic song “Ave Maria.”
Sundance Head from Team Blake Shelton belted an original country song, “Darlin’ Don’t Go,” inspired by his wife. Afterward Shelton jokingly thanked his wife for almost leaving him and inspiring the song.
Gilman again took the stage and sang the Everly Brothers’ “Bye Bye Love” with Levine. McDonald then performed her original song “Wishes,” which was written by Harold Lilly, whose songs have been recorded by Brandy, Luther Vandross, and Zayn Malik, to name a few.
Gallagher then returned for his duet with Levine, and the pair sang “Smooth,” by Santana featuring Rob Thomas. Sundance returned for his duet next with Shelton, and they sang a cover originally by Sundance’s father Roy Head called “Treat Her Right.”
Gallagher’s final song was a cover of John Mellencamp‘s “Jack & Diane,” after which Sundance returned for his cover of “At Last,” by Etta James. “[It’s like] somebody reached back in time…and found this classic, iconic vocalist that went undiscovered and plopped him down on the stage in front of us,” described Shelton.
Gilman’s last song was his original, “Because of Me,” which Levine originally wrote for Maroon 5. And finally, McDonald closed out the show with a cover of Barbara Streisand‘s “Don’t Rain on My Parade.”
The finale of The Voice airs tonight on NBC for a two-hour special starting at 8 pm. The fun-filled night will feature performances from Kelly Clarkson, John Legend, Kiss, The Weeknd, Stevie Wonder, Ariana Grande, Bruno Mars, and Sting.
