The top four contestants each performed three times during Monday night’s part one of The Voice finale: a cover song, a duet with their coach and an original song.

The top four contestants were Hannah Huston from Team Pharrell, Adam Wakefield from Team Blake, Alisan Porter from Team Christina and Laith Al-Saadi from Team Adam.

Opening up the night, Al-Saadi sang his cover of Cream’s “White Room.” He came out and delivered the song with his signature deep, rough voice and guitar solos. “The vibe was amazing, that performance was packed with solos everywhere. And the most incredible, I mean who doesn’t want to play air guitar after this guy plays,” said opposing coach Pharrell Williams.

Next, Porter performed her original song “Down That Road,” inspired by all of her hard experiences in life and the hope she found.

Wakefield sings a duet with his coach, Blake Shelton, of Hank Williams Jr.’s “The Conversation.” This was your typical country duet with the band playing the banjo and a backdrop of wooden pallets.

Hurston did her dark rendition of The Police’s classic, “Every Breath You Take.” She slowed down the tempo, started out with the piano and the guitar. The band’s build and Hurston’s vocal build was big and emotional with her longer notes and vocal growls. They ended the song softly with Hurston singing falsetto with a 1950s type of feel. Most of the judges said how they were worried about her changing the song but said she did an awesome job.

“I am very protective of that song because I love it so much and I was scared because it was so different. I was almost mad. But then you did this amazing version of it and it was really cool,” said coach Adam Levine.

Al-Saadi then did his duet with Levine, which was a Beatles’ Abbey Road album medley. Al-Saadi had his electric guitar while Levine was on the drums. The song started off on a mid-slow tempo then all of a sudden, picked up with Al-Saadi’s guitar riff and Levine’s short drum solo. Levine then hops off the drums, as the song is still playing, and joins Al-Saadi up front, picking up his own electric guitar. Levine and Al-Saadi then begin to play guitar lines back and forth to each other. After, they both start singing again, slowing the song down, and into a close.

Porter and Aguilera do a slow duet of Carole King’s “You’ve Got a Friend.” Porter and Aguilera both sit on stools for the performance and deliver vocal riffs and fillers as well as hitting high notes throughout the song. The song resembled Porter and Aguilera’s friendship. “I love you, girl,” said Aguilera at the the end of the song.

“Lonesome, Broken, and Blue,” was the title of Wakefield’s original country song. Coach Blake was in awe of how Wakefield came up with the lyrics. Especially the first line, “loving you’s like staring into the sun/ the more I try the faster the tear’s run.”

Huston and Williams performed a duet of Williams’ “Brand New,” that was originally featuring Justin Timberlake. The whole performance had Williams’ name all over it, from the backup dancers to the stage design. Huston’s riffs and high notes were crisp and clear.

Al-Saadi’s sang his original song, “Morning Light,” with his guitar in hand.

Wakefield performed, from the behind a grand piano, Vince Gill’s “When I Call Your Name.” Wakefield wore a casual suit with a cowboy hat. He delivered a great, iconic country song, which resulted into getting a standing ovation from his enthusiastic coach, Blake.

Huston sang her original pop song, “I Call The Shots.” The pop song sounds like a mixture of some Beyonce, with the beats, and Pharrell, with the musical arrangements. The song reflected on her musical career while being on The Voice, and being able to make her own choices in the songs she performed during the past season. At the end of the song, Coach Pharrell ran up to the stage and gave Huston a huge hug.

Closing out the night, vocal powerhouse Porter sang her rendition of “Somewhere,” from the West Side Story, which left Aguilera in tears.

“We started this journey in the blind auditions and you made me cry then, and you’re making me cry again,” said Aguilera.

“The Voice” season 10 live finale part two airs Tuesday, May 24, at 8/7c on NBC.
