Violet Affleck, Ben Affleck & Jennifer Garner’s Daughter, Argues Against Mask Bans At L.A. County Board Meeting

Violet Affleck, the 18-year-old daughter of Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck, attended an L.A. County Board of Supervisors meeting and advocated against a proposed mask ban.

Affleck, who self-identified as a first-time voter and Los Angeles resident, took the stand in the Public Comment section and used her platform to raise awareness and demand action on critical public health issues.

In her impassioned speech, Violet revealed that she had personally experienced the consequences of a post-viral condition in 2019. “I’m ok now, but I saw first-hand that medicine does not always have answers to the consequences of even minor viruses,” she said. “The Covid-19 pandemic has thrown that into sharper relief.”

Citing alarming statistics from the Mayo Clinic, Affleck pointed out that one in ten Covid-19 infections can lead to “long Covid,” a debilitating condition that has contributed to widespread unemployment and billions in lost wages.

In response, Affleck outlined a series of concrete demands: “To confront the long COVID crisis, I demand mask availability, air filtration and far-UVC light in government facilities, including jails and detention centers, and mask mandates in county medical facilities. We must expand the availability of high-quality free tests and treatment and, most importantly, the county must oppose mask bans for any reason.”

Affleck argued that such bans do not enhance safety but rather jeopardize the well-being of vulnerable members of the community and ultimately hinder the collective ability of Los Angeles residents to participate in daily activities.

Affleck’s impassioned plea resonates with the broader experiences of today’s youth, who have faced unprecedented challenges due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Many cities are considering mask bans after pro-Palestinian demonstrators used face coverings to hide their identities from police this year.

Affleck will attend Yale University as a freshman in the fall.
